Kim Booth
Before his illness, Kim Booth led an active life: fishing at the lake, spending time with his grandkids, and making annual trips to Maui. As the owner of a trucking and food warehouse company, he was accustomed to keeping busy. However, when a sudden health crisis struck, everything changed for Kim.
Following weeks of care in a traditional hospital, Kim was referred to Vibra Hospital of Fargo, a critical care hospital, to manage his continued complex medical needs. He was battling acute pancreatitis and pancreatic necrosis, which were further complicated by pneumonia and respiratory failure. His condition had deteriorated, leading to septic shock, and he required mechanical ventilation to support his breathing.
At the time of his admission to Vibra Hospital, Kim was completely dependent on others for self-care activities and mobility. His recovery appeared uncertain, but Kim was determined to fight!
As he began to stabilize, Kim successfully weaned off the ventilator and started working with speech therapy and ENT specialists. Over time, he regained the ability to eat a regular diet and breathe without oxygen.
During physical therapy, Kim concentrated on rebuilding his strength and mobility. He progressed from needing full assistance to walking 35 feet with a walker and minimal support. He also regained the ability to dress himself and participate in daily self-care tasks.
After weeks of dedicated effort, Kim was ready for the next step in his recovery. He was discharged to an inpatient rehabilitation facility, where he would continue building his strength before returning home with his wife. Reflecting on his time at Vibra Hospital, Kim said:
“The people at Vibra were very good. The best part was when I healed enough to begin doing more therapy because I didn’t think I would ever walk again.”
Kim, your determination and resilience have been truly inspiring. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey, and we wish you continued success in your recovery!
