Gabriel poses with the Vibra Hospital team

Gabriel Soto

Gabriel Soto’s journey began with a planned surgical procedure, but unexpected complications turned his recovery into a battle for his life that spanned over three months of hospitalization. Gabriel, who had long endured the pain and challenges of abdominal hernias, faced a particularly complex surgery. Despite undergoing multiple interventions, his surgical wound could not be closed, necessitating several additional trips to the operating room.

Gabriel also developed acute respiratory distress syndrome, which made it impossible for him to wean off the ventilator and required the placement of a tracheostomy tube. His recovery was further complicated by pneumonia, acute kidney injury, and severe delirium caused by encephalopathy. These conditions required careful management and multiple adjustments to his medications. His physicians were uncertain whether he would be able to come off the ventilator.

Because of these challenges, Gabriel was transferred to Vibra Hospital of Fargo, a critical care hospital specializing in ventilator weaning and complex, long-term medical care. To aid his recovery, Gabriel was placed on a Precedex IV drip for an extended period. This medication allowed his body to rest and gave him the best opportunity to heal.

Gabriel’s story turned into one of resilience! After weeks of dedicated care and support, his condition began to improve. His delirium subsided, and he started to defy the odds. He was able to wean off the ventilator, and both his tracheostomy and feeding tube were removed. With renewed energy and determination, Gabriel’s recovery accelerated. He didn’t just aim to walk again—he set his sights on running.

Gabriel’s progress during therapy sessions was nothing short of extraordinary. He reached every milestone with remarkable speed, regaining the ability to enjoy a regular diet and exceeding all expectations. His determination, coupled with the support of his family and Vibra team, drove his success.

After months of hospitalization, Gabriel achieved the ultimate milestone: returning home to his family. As he left Vibra Hospital, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who had supported him throughout his journey.

Gabriel, thank you for allowing Vibra Hospital of Fargo to be part of your remarkable recovery story. Your courage and perseverance inspire us all, and we wish you continued health, happiness, and success.
